Bee Basics

Bee Keeping isn't just about getting Honey, it is about the Husbandry just like any other production where animals are involved.  We need the bees - they don't need us.

Before you go racing off the help save the world and save the bees; bee keeping or being an Apiarist is not for everybody.

Beekeeping has a long history and for every beekeeper there is more than one way to look after the bees.  Mainly the types of beekeeing range from the completely hands off method of natural beekeeping, use of some intervention, more intervention, commercial beekeeing and a whole range in between. The type of beekeeping carried out also depends on financial standing and what part of the world you live as to how you progress and what intervention you are prepared to adopt.

Various countries have associations for bee keepers and often the governing body either local, regional, state, county or national laws, by laws, regulations, requirements and recommendations or rules play a part in the type of husbandry and whether the governing body steps in and has the final say as to the procedures or management of the Apiary.

I will be following UK requirements but be aware if you are form another country you rules and regulations may differ.
