How I got into Beekeeping

Back in January 2015, I found out about Flow Hives and the crowd funding. I joined in and it has blossomed from there.

First Year of Bee Keeping

Well I was there when the campaign set off after a false start with a different crowd funding group the previous day.  I watched the funding go well over the initial US $75,000 to US $1,000,000 in the first hour. I was the 31st person to buy a Full Flow Hive of 6 Flow Frames and and a complete Bee hive.

I immersed myself in all things Bee; read books articles and magazines, watched videos, joined the local bee keeping group and became a member of the BBKA and the Flow Hive Forum.

In June I travelled to Wales and bought 2 Nucleus hives; my Queens' Emerald and Sapphire.

In August I went on a weekend Bee seminar and my Flow hives and Flow Frames arrived in September and October 2015.

In October I went to the National Honey Show for 2 days and saw some wonderful lectures, spent too much money and learned loads. I also went on a Skep making day at Stoneleigh and have since been able to help at Gardeners' World live on the BBKA stand making skeps and will be helping on two more events also making skeps.

In December I had a stall at two local schools and sold some Bees wax based products.

January 2016 until April I was on a beginners Bee course with my local Bee Keeping group, and was able to sit and pass my Basic Bee keeping Certificate in June.
